Title : Development of a shared decision-making intervention integrating the individual preferences of patients and clinicians in the choice of cancer treatments.
Directors : Julien Péron, Alexandra Lelia Dima
Shared decision-making is crucial for developing a patient-centered approach and should be based on individual preferences and the highest available medical and scientific evidence. Oncology presents significant individual decision-making challenges, particularly with multiple therapeutic options available, underscoring the need for decision support interventions and tools. The aim of this work is to propose a decision support intervention that includes a digital tool, supported by a robust and reproducible methodological model in oncology. The methodologies employed include Discrete Choice Experiments for eliciting preferences, and the Generalized Pairwise Comparison (GPC) statistical approach. The development of this complex intervention necessitates the use of conceptual frameworks provided by the Medical Research Council (MRC) and the Center for eHealth Research and Disease Management (CeRHES) to apply a mixed methodology that integrates all stakeholders and facilitates the tool’s future implementation.
Thibaut Reverdy is a medical oncologist at the Hospices Civils de Lyon (HCL) and completed his health studies at University Lyon 1. He has been interested in the humanities aspects of oncology for several years. In 2023, he earned a Master's degree in Social Sciences from the École Normale Supérieure de Lyon, presenting a thesis titled "Organizational Approach to Decision-Making in Oncology." He is currently continuing this research theme through a doctoral thesis aimed at developing a decision-support intervention. To support an integrative and rational approach, he employs methodologies from biostatistics and health psychology with the guidance of Professor Julien Péron and Dr. Alexandra Leila Dima.
