Why this project ?

When facing cancer, emotional support and the sharing of lived experience play a key role in the patient’s journey.
PaRole OncO France aims to structure and develop a peer-support program in oncology, where individuals who have experienced cancer accompany those currently undergoing it.

 

An innovative and collaborative project

Inspired by a Quebec initiative that demonstrated major benefits, PaRole OncO France stands out through a participatory approach at every stage of the project, involving:

  •    Patient partners
  •    Patients,
  •    Healthcare professionals,
  •    Researchers.

 Study sites : 10 clinical departments in France across 4 hospital institutions: Hospices Civils de Lyon, Centre Léon Bérard, AP-HP, and GHU..

 

Objectives

  • Transfer and adapt the Quebec model to France
  • Co-design a structured program with patients and healthcare professionals
  • Evaluate the impact of peer support on patients, accompanying patients, and clinical teams

 

Project timeline

Phase 1 : Co-construction of the program

 Phase 2 : Implementation and Evaluation

 Deployment of the program in clinical services

 Study of the effects on patients, accompanying patients, and clinical teams

 

What we aim to accomplish

  • Improve the quality of life of patients living with cancer
  • Create a structured and reproducible model of peer support
  • Provide recommendations for implementing peer-support systems in hospitals
  • Permanently integrate peer support into oncology care
