- Léa Pascal and Cécile Payet: "Study of the direct and indirect effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on the mortality of critical care patients in France"
The COVID-19 pandemic imposed a profound reorganization of the health system and in particular of critical care services, due to the emerging nature of this disease, but also to the high volume of patients requiring critical care in a short period of time. Beyond the direct effects on COVID-19 patients in critical care units, this may have also affected the safety of the management of non-COVID-19 patients in these units, due to limited availability of equipment and health care personnel. We studied the effect of the pandemic on the risk of death of COVID-19 and non-COVID-19 patients in critical care units during the first wave in 2020 in France.
