- Matteo POZZI : " Strategy-outcome and volume-outcome relationship in the setting of veno-arterial extracorporeal membrane oxygenation for refractory cardiogenic shock after acute myocardial infarction "
Abstract: Despite a reduction in mortality over the last three decades in Europe, cardiogenic shock is still a leading cause of death of acute myocardial infarction, thus representing a public health concern. Cardiogenic shock may be refractory to optimal medical management and, in these instances, temporary mechanical circulatory support with veno-arterial extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) may be considered. As this mechanical support is resource-consuming, a better knowledge of its results is of utmost importance in order to improve the survival of these severely ill patients.
